Vacation Highlights - pt 2

So much for logging on every night and posting pictures...almost all of my free time in the evenings has been for work (month end reporting is no fun!). But I had to come and post some pictures today.

We've had beautiful weather all week...until today. It rained almost all day (and not Alaska rain...REAL rain) with lightning, and some areas were in a tornado warning. Fortunately the weather forecasters had it right and we planned for it since the weekend. We knew we wouldn't be able to do fun park stuff outside, so we went to the John F Kennedy Space Center. Erica wanted to meet an astronaut...and she did!!! We met Charles "Sam" Genar (I think that's his name). He had been on three shuttle missions and was a wonderful speaker. Erica said lunch with him was her favorite part (yeah...success!!!). Of course mom spent extra for the printed picture so we could get his autograph (sucker). We also got a poster for her class (signed, too) and stickers for all her friends. Dad also got a gift, but I won't say what it is cuz he might read this before he gets it.
The other highlight of the Space Center was seeing a Moon Rocket and touching a Moon Rock. Erica said it looks like a triangle magnet...and it did. Unfortunately the tour wasn't as good as it could have been. We were in phase 2 lightning (within 10 miles) so we couldn't get out of the bus. But we didn't want to cuz it was raining so hard. We saw a new rocket on a launch pad, but couldn't get very close and the pictures I got were through a rainy window.
When we got back from the tour, it was POURING so we didn't make the walk over to the simulator or the IMAX show. Oh, well...saving that time allowed us to get the astronaut's signature and spend more money. But I have to say it was all worth it!!! Erica is still excited about engineering and science...and it's a prerequisite for being an astronaut (among other things).

It has been years since we visited the Space Center but I still have my souvenir- a yellow NASA coffee cup! Thanks for this posting it brought back good memories of our vacation to Florida when Chris was 12 years old. (he's27 now!)
